Detailed Game Overview

What’s New in Far Cry 6

First of all, don’t expect a revolution. This is a Ubisoft action game — a first-person shooter in an open world where you run around, explore locations, and shoot anyone who seems particularly unfriendly. As for combat, you can take down enemies however you like: either head-on in open battle or through quiet and deadly stealth. And you can switch between styles whenever you want. Couldn’t take out a soldier silently? Feel free to “talk” to the rest with a burst of gunfire — or vice versa.

In short, the *Far Cry 3* formula still works, even though the developers tried to make some notable changes. Take the new progression system, for example — now, instead of earning perks like before, players gain useful skills and abilities through weapons, gear, and building special facilities.

The iconic towers are gone. Instead, you clear out outposts, where you’ll always find useful loot and gain extra experience. Outposts in the game are highly diverse — it could be a TV station or ancient ruins.

It’s also worth noting that in this sixth installment, the developers decided to dial back some of the realistic mechanics. So don’t be surprised if you can carry an entire arsenal, set everything on fire with a high-tech flamethrower, or watch rooster fights in full Mortal Kombat style.

They also addressed the criticism of the previous main title: the protagonist is no longer a lifeless shell but a character with real personality. And the cinematic quality of the cutscenes has improved noticeably, making it more engaging to follow the story of Dani Rojas and the other supporting characters.

Five Key Facts About Far Cry 6

  • The main villain — dictator Antón Castillo — is voiced by famous actor Giancarlo Esposito, best known for his role as Gustavo Fring in *Breaking Bad*. He also played Moff Gideon in *The Mandalorian*.
  • Esposito not only voiced the antagonist but also lent him his likeness.
  • Before the game's release, there were many rumors that Castillo’s son was a young Vaas Montenegro — yes, the same charismatic villain from *Far Cry 3* who became a symbol of the series.
  • Vaas and other memorable villains from past titles appear in special DLCs where you can actually play as them.
  • The game will receive plenty of post-launch content. For example, one DLC mission involves helping actor Danny Trejo feed the people of Yara with delicious tacos. And of course, he wouldn’t be *Machete* without... a machete!

Why Do You Need a Dachshund?

As everyone knows, a dog is a man’s best friend. And a useful pup who can help deal with El Presidente’s soldiers is the best companion ever. Chorizo, the adorable disabled puppy, is so cute that no one can resist trying to pet him — not even the enemy. And that’s all Dani needs: once a soldier is distracted, you can easily take them out. If you level up this pet, he even becomes a mobile medkit — scratch his ear and you’ll instantly heal.

Chorizo and other animal friends become true "amigos" to Dani, giving you a serious tactical edge. Alongside the charming pup, you can also team up with Guapo the golden-toothed alligator, Chicharrón the battle-hardened rooster, and other useful beasts. Each companion has their own unique skills tailored to different situations. So pick your favorite and start your own revolution in this small island nation!

Weapons and Customization in Far Cry 6

The game offers a huge arsenal — around a hundred weapons. Most of them can be purchased, while others (collectibles) must be found or earned as quest rewards. Get ready to try out dozens of pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, SMGs, sniper rifles, and grenade launchers. You can even use a CD launcher, throw custom axes, or return to basics with a trusty bow. There’s something for everyone:

To further upgrade and customize your guns, you’ll need to use workbenches. In these workshops, you can swap ammo types, attach suppressors, and install your favorite scopes. Don’t forget the option to change your gun’s paint job — after all, liberating your homeland should be done in style. And yes, you can craft incendiary, poison, explosive, or armor-piercing rounds.

Special mention goes to the "Supremo" backpack worn by the protagonist. It can be used as a missile launcher or an EMP generator capable of grounding aircraft — which you can then hijack. And believe us, that’s far from the wildest thing in the game.

Transportation and Movement in Far Cry 6

The island of Yara is vast, so walking everywhere isn’t the best idea. Just like in earlier entries of the series, Dani can use a variety of vehicles to get around. In addition to your personal car, you can try flying a plane, using a parachute, or gliding with wingsuits. Want something less conventional? Then don’t deny yourself the pleasure of riding a battle horse, testing a car-plane hybrid, or... driving a tank! Vehicles can also be modified and customized to suit your style.

Who Won’t Enjoy Far Cry 6?

Far Cry 6 likely won’t appeal to those who are simply tired of Ubisoft’s formula. In recent years, the publisher has followed the same pattern for its major releases: large-scale open-world action games overflowing with content — sometimes great, sometimes overly repetitive. Plus, Ubisoft tends to go overboard with map size, and not every player wants to spend hours clearing an absolutely MASSIVE game world.

It’s also puzzling that the developers decided to bring back ideas from the controversial *New Dawn* spin-off. Specifically, the odd RPG system where Dani doesn’t have traditional skills, but both the player and enemies have levels. Yes, there's a classic RPG-style health bar, and you’ll need to level up to kill enemies more efficiently. But the balance isn’t perfect — high-rank enemies can still be taken down with just a couple of headshots. Because of that, most shootouts feel a bit too similar.

Far Cry 6 System Requirements

Like most developers, the programmers and artists behind Far Cry 6 used their long-time graphics engine, Dunia, which has powered the series since Far Cry 2 back in 2008. However, that doesn’t mean the engine hasn’t been improved over time.
