Workstations with AMD Ryzen Threadripper
AMD Ryzen Threadripper is a high-end class of central processors. They are used in the most advanced workstations designed for complex professional calculations with minimal render time.
To effectively handle such tasks, processors in the AMD Threadripper series have up to 64 cores and 128 threads with a maximum frequency of up to 4.5 GHz in their design. They are located on several chiplets, which makes the size of the CPU 3-4 times larger than models intended for home computers.
Hence the need for a different, larger connection socket. Current AMD Ryzen processors have AM4 and AM5 sockets, but the Threadripper series uses TR4, sTRX4 and sWRX8 sockets. The shape of such connectors is different even visually: it is elongated and rectangular, not square.
The AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors also support 4- and 8-channel RAM modes. This achieves increased RAM bandwidth, which also increases PC performance in work tasks.

In addition to a large number of cores and multi-channel RAM mode, AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors have the following advantages:
- Support for 64 PCI Express lines. Thanks to this, several video cards (usually up to 4) and many storage devices can be connected to the CPU.
- The ability to work with ECC RAM. ECC memory automatically detects and corrects errors in bit changes, increasing system stability and preventing PC crashes.
- Total cache size of up to 288 MB. For regular CPUs, it does not exceed 32 MB. Thanks to the large cache size, AMD Threadripper processors can work with a large amount of data without transferring it to RAM. This increases the system's performance in professional tasks by orders of magnitude.
What tasks can a PC with AMD Ryzen Threadripper perform?
AMD Threadripper series processors are not intended for video games. Modern games do not require 64 cores and 128 threads. They are not optimized for such CPUs, so the frame rate will not increase compared to lower-end processors.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper products are intended exclusively for professional tasks where render and calculation time needs to be minimized. These tasks include:
- video editing;
- visualization;
- animation;
- data analysis;
- photo editing;
- 3D modeling;
- architectural design;
- cryptographic calculations;
- software and video game development;
- artificial intelligence training, etc.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors can also be used to create server stations. However, AMD has a separate EPYC series for this purpose. Its products are better suited for use in servers and data processing centers.
