The gaming industry in China is highly developed, but most developers release their projects only on mobile platforms. Chinese developers rarely create games for PCs and consoles, and those that do often have modest budgets and less advanced graphics. Such projects can’t be considered true AAA blockbusters.
Black Myth: Wukong is the first major-budget Chinese game to be released on PCs and next-gen consoles. Within three days of its release, it sold over 10 million copies, which is considered a phenomenal success by industry standards.
Today, we’ll take a look at Black Myth: Wukong, explain what kind of game it is, and discuss what kind of computer you need to achieve a high and stable frame rate.

Black Myth: Wukong has very high system requirements, but that won’t be a problem for our computers. With our PCs, you’ll enjoy high and stable frame rates in any modern game.
Black Myth: Wukong Storyline
The game's plot is based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West. A monk named Tang Sanzang decides to journey to India to learn the true teachings of Buddha. Accompanying him are other pilgrims, most notably the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. After a long journey, the heroes return to China, having gained wisdom and sacred scriptures.
Upon returning home, Sun Wukong decides to challenge the heavenly gods. He is defeated in a battle with Erlang and turns to stone. Just before his demise, the Monkey King manages to divide his power into six parts, represented in the game as relics stolen by Yaoguai—powerful evil spirits.
The main character is also a monkey, determined to find all the relics and free Sun Wukong from his imprisonment. To do so, the protagonist embarks on a long and dangerous journey across China, encountering new characters, many of whom knew Sun Wukong personally.
The story is divided into six chapters, each telling its own tale. The game’s ending will depend on the decisions made throughout the storyline.
Black Myth: Wukong Gameplay
Black Myth: Wukong is a classic slasher game. Players will engage in close combat, upgrade skills, and explore locations to find new gear.
The game borrows many mechanics from other Souls-like titles such as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Elden Ring, and Dark Souls. For example, Black Myth: Wukong features Guardian Altars that restore health and allow players to craft weapons and gear, similar to the bonfires in FromSoftware games.
Unlike other Souls-likes, Black Myth: Wukong is not as hardcore. The difficulty level isn’t too high, and you don’t lose experience points upon death, meaning there’s no risk of losing severallevels' worth of progress. Experience points can be spent on increasing health and stamina, as well as unlocking new combat skills and techniques.
There are also many RPG elements in Black Myth: Wukong, such as the gear system. Equipment is categorized by rarity. Armor marked in blue is common but has lower stats, while purple-marked gear is rare and offers much better stats.
There’s no open world in Black Myth: Wukong. The game is linear, but some locations are quite expansive. Branches in the paths can lead to resources, valuable items, and gear-filled chests, making exploration rewarding.
Fans of slasher games love boss battles, and Black Myth: Wukong offers plenty of them—over 100, to be exact. Players will encounter new bosses roughly every 20-30 minutes. Each boss is unique, and defeating them requires careful planning, with specific strategies, abilities, and gear choices.
Combat System Features
The combat system revolves around fast, low-damage attacks, heavy, high-damage strikes, and dodging. During fights, players must monitor not only health and stamina but also the level of concentration. Concentration builds up with every hit. Once filled, the player can unleash a special combo or powerful attack that deals massive damage.
While similar features are found in other slasher games, Black Myth: Wukong’s combat system stands out due to its unique skills. For example, one skill allows you to climb onto your staff to avoid enemy attacks, another freezes enemies in place, and a third turns the protagonist into stone.
Additionally, the game allows for transformations into other creatures, adopting their combat styles. For example, after defeating a Wolf, the protagonist can transform into one, gaining access to special abilities and weapons of the defeated foe.
Black Myth: Wukong: PC System Requirements
Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most visually stunning and technologically advanced games of its time. The quality of textures, global illumination, detailed environments, geometric accuracy, and vegetation is all top-tier by industry standards.
Developers have paid special attention to physics and tessellation, which breaks polygons into smaller primitives. For instance, deep footprints and ruts form in snow or sand as you move through them. The characters' hair moves dynamically, reacting to motion. Vegetation also responds to other objects, bending as you walk through grass. These kinds of details are rarely seen in games, even in big-budget blockbusters from wealthy developers.
However, gamers must pay for such cutting-edge graphics with high system requirements.

The minimum and recommended system requirements listed below account for upscaling technologies like DLSS and FSR. The developers have stated this directly. If you want to play at native resolution without upscaling, you’ll need a significantly more powerful graphics card.
We recommend not going beyond “high” graphics settings and leaving global illumination at “medium” for a balanced performance and decent FPS. But if you have a powerful PC, feel free to max out all the settings.
