Warface

The release of the MMO shooter Warface took place in 2012. Developed by Crytek (who also released Far Cry and Crysis), the publisher for the CIS region was Mail.ru. After its release, the game immediately collected several prestigious awards:

  • Best Game at KRI 2012.
  • Best Graphics at KRI 2012.
  • Runet Award in 2012, won through public voting.

In 2013, Warface was entered into the Guinness World Records. It broke the record for the number of players simultaneously on the server in a multiplayer shooter.

After this, serious awards were few. The game continues to maintain popularity through voting from Mail.ru.

What makes Warface different from its competitors?

What's notable:

  • Free-to-play distribution model.
  • Includes microtransactions.
  • Donations affect the player's strength in battle.
  • High-quality graphics.
  • A huge amount of content.
  • Presence of PvE operations.

Anything related to money is a sensitive topic for the Russian-speaking community. Especially criticized is the purchase of gear for real money. However, the F2P model allows playing for free. The game has no serious competitors. Other multiplayer F2P shooters fall short in graphics or are in poor condition.

It’s not fair to compare it with Battlefield, CS:GO, and Call of Duty. To play those, you first need to purchase one of them. The prices are high, and while Counter-Strike can still be found cheap, Battlefield and CoD require over $35, and they also have paid content.

Warface offers plenty of content. The developers didn’t try too hard to be original. They simply added all the combat modes from competitors. There are 10 types of combat, ranging from strategic point capture to a simple meat grinder.

Operations involving systematic bot clearing are also present. 9 operations are available for cooperative play.

The amount of content is the game’s main advantage. There are many opportunities for character customization. The weapon selection is excellent, although it needs to be bought or earned with effort in the game.

Esports in Warface

The game cannot be called an esports powerhouse. It has a ranking system with separate battles, as well as regular combat modes. Fun modes like “Meat Grinder” or bot battles don’t add much seriousness to the game.

However, some tournaments are held. The largest one took place at the Warfest festival. It was called K.I.W.I, and the winning team received 1.5 million rubles. Perhaps, over time, it will reach a more serious level. But for now, that remains a dream.

System Requirements for Warface

The game runs on the CryEngine 3.5 engine. This is a modified platform, on which Crysis and the first FarCry were released. The engine is old, and even updates don't change that. The game has several technical issues:

  • Poor optimization on new graphics cards;
  • Weak servers;
  • Complex animations.

The most disappointing aspect is the Mail.ru servers. They are weak and unsuitable for serious esports gaming. As you know, FPS stands for frames per second. This indicator shows how often the graphics card updates the screen. The physical model of players and the environment works the same way. The server checks data several times per second, which is called ticks, and after each tick, the information is sent to all players.

For example, CS:GO works on servers with 64 ticks, but some players feel this is insufficient and have asked the developers to switch to 128 ticks per second. Mail.ru servers are designed for 10-20 ticks.

Additionally, the game uses complex animations like the slide. The developers position this as a unique feature that is not found elsewhere. They are absolutely correct, other games don’t use this function. It causes too many lags because processing such movements is much more difficult for the server.

The client itself is not demanding, so the computer's power requirements are minimal. Using a monitor with a high refresh rate doesn't make sense – the weak servers will still prevent you from reacting in time.

What kind of computer is needed for Warface?

The game's weak point is optimization. The graphics card doesn't need to be very powerful. However, the processor is another matter. For stable 120+ FPS, a powerful 7th generation processor is required. The game uses very little RAM, so the amount can be ignored.

The stability of screen refresh can be improved by turning off certain graphics settings. For example, vertical synchronization consumes a lot of resources. It won't affect the visual appearance of the game, but it will reduce the load on the hardware.

How to choose a graphics card for Warface?

The game is made on an old engine and is already 6 years old. The graphics are good, but definitely not top-tier. Using monitors with UHD resolution makes no sense. Below is a table showing the top gaming solutions from NVIDIA and their FPS. All settings in the tests are set to maximum.

How much video memory is needed?

  • UHD – 1.5 GB
  • FHD – 1 GB
Frames per second 1920x1080 (FullHD) 3840x2160 (UltraHD)
GTX 1080 Ti 250+ 250+
GTX 1080 250+ 250+
GTX 1070 225 155
GTX 1060 165 155
GTX 1050 Ti 90 60
GTX 1050 80 50

How to choose a processor for Warface?

The graphics card test is not very relevant. You can get more frames if the processor allows it. Based on research from forums and YouTube, it can be confidently said that for 150+ frames per second, you need a processor with a frequency of 4.0 GHz. Intel doesn't release processors with such frequencies in the mid-price range. They can only be found in high-end models.

However, you can still play on an i5 from the 6th series. The key is that it should be overclockable. If the model number ends with the letter “K,” it means the multiplier is unlocked, and you can overclock it yourself without any complicated procedures.

To summarize: for gaming, you need a powerful processor with four cores and a 4.0 GHz frequency. The frequency can be increased by overclocking, but you'll need a powerful cooling system. The more you overclock the processor, the hotter it will get.

How much RAM is needed?

The memory should be with a margin. Otherwise, there is a risk of experiencing long lags lasting a couple of seconds. For comfortable gaming, your computer should have 8GB of memory with any frequency. Official system requirements are not relevant.

The game consumes the following amount of memory:

  • UHD – 6GB
  • FHD – 5.5GB

Should you get an SSD for Warface?

Any modern computer should have an SSD. It is much faster than a regular HDD. However, this makes it more expensive per gigabyte. Ideally, the computer should have two drives: an SSD and an HDD.
It's best to install the operating system, necessary programs, and games on the SSD. This will significantly speed up the overall system performance. The HDD is suitable for storing large files.

How to build a computer for Warface

The graphics card and processor must match in terms of performance. If one is weaker, you won’t achieve good performance. A weak component will drag the whole system down.

Overclocking your hardware is often necessary. To avoid damaging components, you must install an appropriate cooling system. Creating effective heat dissipation consists of three stages:

  • Installing radiators and coolers on them.
  • Creating airflow inside the case.
  • Soundproofing.

The radiators will cool the hottest parts of the computer, most often the processor and graphics card. But if you’re overclocking them, cooling will also be necessary for the motherboard. Radiators on the RAM can also be useful, especially if you want to increase its default frequency.

Installing a lot of fans can achieve the necessary heat dissipation. But there is a risk that such a system will make a sound like a roaring turbine during operation. To avoid this, here are some ways:

  • Installing rubberized dampers on the fan mounts to the case.
  • Using coolers with larger blades and lower speeds.
  • Replacing air cooling with water cooling.
  • Using a large case with the power supply located at the bottom.

This is a delicate job. To avoid unnecessary problems, turn to professionals. A ready-made system unit will be more reliable and visually appealing.
