Dead Island 2 is a game that has been in development since 2014. The first part, as well as the sequel called Riptide, was developed by the Polish studio Techland, but its employees did not want to work on the second part. Instead, they started creating a completely new franchise, now known as Dying Light.
Deep Silver was forced to end its cooperation with the Polish company and look for new developers, so the production of Dead Island 2 was passed from studio to studio and lasted almost 9 years.
By 2023, Deep Silver had overcome all difficulties. Together with developers from Dumbuster Studios, they are finishing work on the project. In March, the game has already gone "gold", meaning the publisher has started producing physical copies of the new game. The long-awaited zombie action game Dead Island 2 will be released on April 21.
Plot
Despite the word "island" in the title, the events of the game take place in modern Los Angeles several months after the events of the first part. A plane carrying the main character crashes over the Beverly Hills area. The player manages to survive, but quickly discovers that it is too early to relax: a zombie apocalypse has come to Los Angeles.
The main character helps other survivors, gets bitten by infected, but to everyone's surprise, this does not turn him into a monster. It is obvious that his body has immunity to the disease. Realizing the responsibility it imposes on him for the future of humanity, the main character decides to find doctors and help develop a vaccine against the zombie virus.
Gameplay
Dead Island 2 is a first-person zombie action game. The basis of the gameplay is the same as in the first part: helping survivors, exploring the open world, and fighting infected in both close combat and long-range combat using firearms.
Combat system
Most of the battles in Dead Island 2 will take place in close combat. The game will provide an impressive arsenal of melee weapons to destroy zombies. It will include knives, axes, hammers, oars, mops, branches, etc. Practically any item that can cause damage, the game will allow you to pick up and use in close combat.
In Dead Island 2, you can upgrade almost any weapon. Additional modules will not only increase the damage, but also give new properties. For example, if you install a burner on a hammer, zombies will start to catch fire. An electric motor on a katana can shock and paralyze infected for several seconds.
To avoid enemy attacks and avoid being surrounded, the game will provide dodges. When holding down a special key, the character will make a quick dash in the direction of movement. In addition, to avoid being surrounded and break the distance with enemies, kicking with your foot will help, as in the first part.
Firearms will be represented by pistols, shotguns, and rifles. There will be few cartridges for them, so players will have to save ammunition and shoot only when there is no other way out.
Disembowelment system
To make battles more realistic, developers have created the FLESH (Fully Localized Humanoid Disembowelment System) system, which allows for injuries using procedural generation.
This makes the game more brutal and bloody, and the developers themselves characterize this technology as "ridiculously horrible." When a player tries to chop off an opponent's arm with a machete, cuts will appear first, then muscles will become visible, and finally bones. If you stab an infected person in the stomach with a kitchen knife, the innards will spill out of the slashed body.
Open world
The open world in Dead Island 2 is not entirely open. Like in the first part, it is divided into several areas that will need to be loaded between. In other words, Dead Island 2 presents several very large locations, or rather, areas of Los Angeles. You will have to move around them on your own - there will be no transportation in the game.
System Requirements
At the moment, the system requirements for the game are unknown. It can be assumed that Dead Island 2 will have democratic minimum requirements, as the novelty is coming out on last-generation consoles - PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, this does not mean that high or ultra graphics settings on PC will not require a powerful computer.
According to HYPERPC, the game Dead Island 2 will have the following system requirements:
