Cyberpunk 2077 Endings Guide: Requirements, Choices and the Secret Route

V and Johnny Silverhand on the rooftop before the final choice in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 has five endings in the base game and a sixth, The Tower, added by the Phantom Liberty expansion. You pick one during a single rooftop conversation with Johnny Silverhand in the mission Nocturne Op55N1, but most options only show up if you finished specific side jobs earlier. This guide covers what to complete before the point of no return, which choices lead where, and which saves to keep so you can see every outcome without replaying the whole game.

Spoiler warning: the sections below reveal the endings of the base game and Phantom Liberty.

Every ending at a glance

Ending What you need beforehand Rooftop choice Achievement
The Devil nothing trust Arasaka, take Omega Blockers The Devil (Takemura must survive)
The Star Panam's three side jobs call Panam, take Omega Blockers The Star
The Sun Rogue's questline and friendship with Johnny let Johnny and Rogue go, take Pseudoendotrizine The Sun
Temperance Panam's or Rogue's questline any route except Hanako Temperance
Suicide ending nothing give up on every plan and toss the pills none
The Tower Phantom Liberty, Songbird handed to Reed alive not used: Reed's call starts it yes
Table of requirements for every Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty ending

The secret solo assault is not a seventh ending. It is a harder route that ends in The Sun or Temperance.

The point of no return

The final chain starts when you enter the Embers restaurant to meet Hanako Arasaka during Nocturne Op55N1. The game warns you that once you go in, the final missions begin and open-world exploration is over. Meeting Hanako does not lock you into her plan: the real decision comes later on the rooftop.

After the credits, the game sends you back to the moment before this point, so you can keep playing. Earlier decisions stay as they were.

Before you walk into Embers

  1. Panam: finish Riders on the Storm, With a Little Help from My Friends and Queen of the Highway. Do not abandon Saul's rescue in the first job, or the questline can fail.
  2. Rogue and Johnny: finish Chippin' In and Blistering Love, including the drive-in date with Rogue.
  3. Secret route: pick the friendly answers at Johnny's grave in Chippin' In.
  4. Takemura: keep him alive in Search and Destroy if you want The Devil achievement.
  5. Phantom Liberty: wrap up Songbird's story if you want The Tower.
  6. Save: make a dedicated manual save right before Embers and never overwrite it.

Saves worth keeping

Where to save Why
Before Search and Destroy save Takemura for The Devil achievement
Before the grave conversation in Chippin' In lock in friendship with Johnny and the secret route
Before picking a side in Firestarter play both Phantom Liberty paths
On the train at the end of Songbird's story compare handing her to Reed with sending her to the Moon
Before entering Embers try every rooftop option
At Mikoshi, before the body choice decide who keeps V's body
On the orbital station, before the contract see both versions of The Devil

Manual saves are blocked during combat and some scenes, so save before the dialogue. Inside the solo assault, only autosaves work.

The Devil: Hanako's offer

This is the default ending, open to everyone. On the rooftop, choose to trust Arasaka, take the Omega Blockers and call Hanako. Then play through Last Caress and Totalimmortal and help her retake control of the company.

V ends up on an Arasaka orbital station. The Relic and Johnny are removed, but the damage to V's body cannot be undone. V is offered a contract: sign and have their mind stored in Mikoshi until a body is found, or refuse and return to Earth with roughly six months to live. These are two versions of one ending.

The Devil achievement only unlocks if Goro Takemura survived Search and Destroy. The ending itself is available either way.

The Star: leaving with the Aldecaldos

Complete Panam Palmer's three side jobs. On the rooftop, call Panam, commit to the nomad plan and take the Omega Blockers. The Aldecaldos help you break into Arasaka Tower. At Mikoshi, after talking to Alt Cunningham, choose to return to your own body and descend into the Well.

Aldecaldos nomads heading toward Arasaka Tower in The Star ending

V leaves Night City with the clan while Johnny goes into cyberspace with Alt. V's time is still limited, but the nomads promise to look for help. A romance with Panam is not required. If V is with Judy, call her before the finale and she will leave with the clan too.

The Sun: becoming a Night City legend

You need Rogue's questline and a good relationship with Johnny. On the rooftop, let Johnny and Rogue lead the assault and take the Pseudoendotrizine. You play as Johnny until Mikoshi. To give the body back to V, cross the bridge with Alt. On this route, the Well does the opposite and leaves the body to Johnny.

V becomes a legend of Night City and gets an offer from Mr. Blue Eyes to rob an orbital casino. The game does not show how the heist goes or whether V is cured. Rogue dies during the assault on this route.

Temperance: Johnny gets a second chance

Any route to Mikoshi except Hanako's can end here. If you are playing as V (Panam's route or the solo run), give the body to Johnny and cross the bridge with Alt. If you are playing as Johnny (Rogue's route), choose to stay in the body and descend into the Well.

V goes into cyberspace, and Johnny starts over and leaves Night City.

The suicide ending

On the rooftop, V can refuse every plan. Choose the line about putting it all to rest and toss the pills. The credits roll right after. There is no achievement, and it is the darkest outcome in the game.

The secret route: a solo assault on Arasaka Tower

This route is harder than any other, but nobody else comes with you, so Panam, the nomads and Rogue all survive.

  1. At Johnny's grave in Chippin' In, choose: inscribe Johnny's initials, call him the guy who saved your life, admit you messed things up too, ask what he wants from you, give him one last second chance, mention he was a real jerk in the beginning, ask about letting his friends down, say the Smasher business really got to Rogue, and agree to call her.
  2. Complete Blistering Love.
  3. On the rooftop, do not pick any plan. Wait about five minutes, looking between the gun and Johnny now and then.
  4. Johnny will suggest storming the tower together. Accept.

There is no restart checkpoint during this mission. If V dies, the game rolls the credits. Reach Mikoshi, and the usual rule applies: the Well leads to Temperance, the bridge to The Sun.

Phantom Liberty: four outcomes and The Tower

The expansion splits in Firestarter, where you either help Songbird escape or help Solomon Reed capture her.

Firestarter choice Final decision Outcome Unlocks The Tower
Help Songbird kill Reed on the train King of Wands no
Help Songbird hand Songbird to Reed alive King of Swords yes
Help Reed kill Songbird King of Cups no
Help Reed spare Songbird and wait for Reed King of Pentacles yes
Songbird on the train in Phantom Liberty

After King of Swords or King of Pentacles, Reed contacts V and the missions Through Pain to Heaven, Who Wants to Live Forever and Things Done Changed begin. Completing the last one unlocks The Tower achievement.

The Tower is the only ending where V survives in their own body with the Relic gone. The price is steep: after the surgery V spends about two years in a coma and can no longer use cyberware. The city and V's friends have moved on. There is no free roam after this ending, so load an earlier save to continue playing.

Phantom Liberty was never released on PS4 or Xbox One, so The Tower is not available there. The secret solo route does not need the expansion.

Which ending is the best?

There is no single answer.

  • V survives and is cured: The Tower, with a bitter cost.
  • A warm ending with the people V cares about: The Star.
  • Legend status in Night City: The Sun, ideally through the solo run where Rogue survives.
  • Johnny's story: Temperance.
  • The darkest look at corporate power: The Devil.

Replaying the finale on PC

On PC, labelled manual saves make it easy to jump back to any branch listed above. If you plan to revisit the final missions with path tracing and maximum settings, it helps to know what your system can handle before you start. You can browse our gaming PCs or read about what CD Projekt Red announced for the game's 5th anniversary.

Mods that change dialogue logic can affect ending requirements, so turn them off if you want the endings to work as designed.
