We tested the GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card in modern games. To assess performance, we measured the average FPS – a key indicator of gameplay smoothness. This characteristic shows what frame rate occurred most frequently during the testing. It is calculated by dividing the total number of frames rendered over time by the duration of the test. The higher the average FPS, the smoother the gameplay experience.
The testing was conducted on a high-end system that allowed the graphics card to perform at its best without being limited by other components. Today, we will present specific numbers and conclusions about how the RTX 5090 handles modern projects at 4K and 1440p resolutions, as well as ray tracing.
Testing

Testing Configuration
We conducted the testing of the GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card on the following computer:
- Operating system – Windows 11 24H2;
- CPU – AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D;
- Motherboard – MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi;
- SSD – MSI Spatium 1TB M470 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2;
- Power supply – MSI MPG A 1000G ATX 3.0 80 Plus Gold 1000W;
- RAM – 32 GB G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-6000.
These components were chosen carefully. They allow the graphics card to perform at its best without being bottlenecked by other components. In other words, we selected the configuration so that performance would always be limited by the graphics card, not the processor or RAM capacity.
How Testing Was Conducted in Games
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 is a flagship accelerator of the latest generation, bought for uncompromising gaming at high resolutions. Therefore, we tested the graphics card in the following modes:
- At maximum graphics settings in 4K resolution;
- At maximum graphics settings in 1440p (2K) resolution;
- At maximum graphics settings with ray tracing enabled in 1440p resolution and DLSS smoothing in "Quality" mode.
These are the most popular ways to use top-tier graphics cards.
Game Tests in 4K and 2K Resolution
We tested 17 modern video games. Among them are both very demanding single-player projects and competitive online disciplines with low system requirements. The average FPS results were as follows:
Game | FPS (4K) | FPS (2K) |
---|---|---|
Starfield | 89 | 125 |
Delta Force | 160 | 265 |
War Thunder | 369 | 414 |
Marvel Rivals | 101 | 155 |
Counter-Strike 2 | 472 | 612 |
Hogwarts Legacy | 144 | 151 |
Star Wars Outlaws | 68 | 112 |
The Last of Us Part I | 125 | 204 |
God of War Ragnarök | 195 | 268 |
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor | 102 | 191 |
A Plague Tale: Requiem | 128 | 186 |
Dragon Age: The Veilguard | 96 | 128 |
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered | 212 | 222 |
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty | 124 | 209 |
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl | 71 | 94 |
Dying Light 2 Stay Human in DirectX 11 mode | 122 | 198 |
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 with high-resolution textures |
125 | 134 |
Ray Tracing Game Tests
We changed the game set for testing the card with ray tracing enabled, as not all projects from the previous list support it. The following are the results for the average FPS:
Game | FPS |
---|---|
Alan Wake II | 141 |
Black Myth: Wukong | 98 |
Metro Exodus Enhanced | 248 |
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered | 128 |
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty | 129 |
Dying Light 2 Stay Human in DirectX 12 mode | 168 |

Conclusion
In short, here are the conclusions:
- The GeForce RTX 5090 demonstrated high performance in all tested modes, providing excellent gameplay smoothness.
- In 4K resolution, the graphics card maintains stable 60+ FPS even in the most demanding games, while in competitive games, the FPS exceeds 300.
- At 1440p resolution, the performance is even higher, making the RTX 5090 an ideal choice for high refresh rate monitors.
- The graphics card handles ray tracing well, providing comfortable FPS even in demanding games.
- For maximum graphics and video quality, as well as smooth gameplay in 4K, it is recommended to use DLSS.
