Which GPU is better for gaming
The RTX 5070's power at native resolution without ray tracing is about 10-15% lower than the RTX 4070 Ti. However, when enabling DLSS upscaling and ray tracing, the GPUs' performance equalizes. Sometimes, the newer model even outperforms its predecessor due to more powerful tensor and RT cores.
All RTX 5000 series GPUs support DLSS 4. The key difference from the previous version is support for Multi Frame Generation, which significantly increases FPS.
Previous-generation GPUs do not support DLSS 4, as multi-frame generation requires highly efficient tensor cores, which are only available in the new GPU generation.
Comparing the RTX 5070 with Multi Frame Generation enabled to the RTX 4070 Ti with standard generation, the newer model is more than twice as fast.
Which GPU is better for work tasks
The RTX 4070 Ti slightly outperforms the newer model in most work-related tasks. However, there are two exceptions:
- Video processing. All new-generation accelerators feature updated encoders and decoders, improving video processing speed, preview smoothness, and encoding quality in AV1 and HEVC formats.
- FP4 and INT4 number formats. AI operations using FP4 and INT4 number formats will run twice as fast on new-generation GPUs.
Conclusion
The RTX 5070 GPU:
- 10-15% weaker than the 4070 Ti at native resolution without DLSS;
- delivers equal FPS to the RTX 4070 Ti when DLSS and ray tracing are enabled;
- twice as fast as the 4070 Ti with Multi Frame Generation enabled;
- slightly weaker than the 4070 Ti in work tasks and applications;
- slightly more powerful than the 4070 Ti in some video processing and AI scenarios.
