Dawn of War 4 Gets a Nine-Minute Gameplay Overview as First Previews Land
On October 22, 2026, Deep Silver and German studio KING Art Games released a roughly nine-minute gameplay overview of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4. It covers four factions, four campaigns with more than 70 missions, and the multiplayer suite. The game launches on Steam on December 3, and early press impressions are mixed.
What the trailer covers
The story is set on the planet Kronus, centuries after Dark Crusade. Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and the Adeptus Mechanicus fight for control of it. This is the Mechanicus's first appearance in the series, and KING Art built the faction around ranged combat, void shields that block incoming fire, and bonuses that scale with the number of buildings on your base.
Black Library author John French wrote the story. Each faction has its own campaign, adding up to more than 70 missions, with co-op support, a dynamic world map and branching narrative. Narration comes from Jonathan Keeble, a familiar voice to Warhammer 40,000 audiobook listeners.
The overall pitch is a return to classic real-time strategy: build a base, manage resources, research upgrades, command armies and call in stratagems.
Beyond the campaigns, the launch line-up includes:
- 30 multiplayer maps, according to 3DNews;
- Skirmish with dozens of settings, four game types and up to five AI opponents;
- The Last Stand, the co-op survival mode fans know from earlier entries;
- The Painter, an expanded customisation tool that lets you recolour individual armour pieces.
What the previews say
Journalists played campaign sections and several Skirmish match types. As summarised by Igromania, some outlets see the potential for one of the best Warhammer 40K games and a standout RTS in its own right, while others call the formula plainly dated. The Adeptus Mechanicus storyline is singled out as intriguing, and technical rough edges are the most common complaint.
That fits the game's history. In August, KING Art moved launch from September 17 to December 3, with game director Jan Theysen saying the team needed extra weeks to fix bugs and improve performance.
Will your PC run it?
Official system requirements have not been published yet: the Steam page still lists them as “Coming soon”, so naming specific graphics cards now would be guesswork. Large-army RTS games with several AI players lean heavily on the CPU and system memory, while the GPU carries the effects and detail of big battles.
If you are planning an upgrade before December, you can price up options in the HYPERPC configurator and check them against the official specs once KING Art releases them.
