Starfield is an upcoming role-playing game from Bethesda Softworks, the masters of the genre who brought gamers The Elder Scrolls series and the 3D versions of Fallout. As in their other projects, players can expect a branching skill tree, a wealth of character customization options, and a lengthy and engaging storyline.
Plot
The game is set in the not-too-distant future of the 24th century, when humanity has managed to conquer not only the solar system but also numerous neighboring star clusters. The region where the player will find themselves is called the "Settled Systems," and users will take on the role of space explorer under the auspices of an organization called "Constellation."
As a result of a bloody war between two factions ("United Colonies" and "Commonwealth of Free Stars"), the entire region is divided between these two formidable powers. However, in the game world, players can encounter many less significant factions, each pursuing its own goals.
Players can visit large, bustling cities alongside gray, lifeless planets where adventures and puzzles are hidden.

Gameplay
Starfield follows the same well-polished formula as Bethesda Softworks' other projects. Gamers can choose between first-person and third-person perspectives, explore different planets, and encounter the living organisms that inhabit them. At the same time, it is necessary to collect resources with a special mining laser (hello No Man's Sky) to use them in crafting and building.
Some worlds will have a completely hostile atmosphere, while others will be like Eden's Garden. Planetary flora and fauna can become both an enemy to the hero and an ally.
If we examine planets in more detail, most of them are created according to the principle of procedural generation. According to the developers, gamers can visit several thousand planets. It is possible to disembark at any place that allows it. Here, users can have fun to the fullest: building colonies, destroying pirate strongholds, and collecting resources.
Buildings on such planets will be generated randomly and will probably be the same type. This approach will allow users to take a break from the main storyline for several dozen hours or dive into free-play after its completion.
Ship and Settlements
Straight from the fourth installment of Fallout, the settlement building system migrated to the game, only here it promises to have a more grandiose scope. The outposts that are erected will become much larger, and players will be able to participate directly in their development. Hiring settlers with specific specifications can lead to colony prosperity or turn it into a hotbed of piracy and crime.
In addition to building settlements, users can build their own spaceship. All its parts will be customizable: both the external and internal (weapons, cladding, engine, command bridge, etc.). The player can also recruit a crew for the ship to take care of all its systems.
Interaction mechanics with the spacecraft promise to be engaging, as it is not just a means of transportation or a place to communicate with the team, as it has been in most space-themed role-playing games. Here, ships can be hijacked, battles can be fought in space, and they can dock with other shuttles and stations for trading purposes, or experience all the hardships of smuggler life.
Combat and non-combat aspects
As this is an action-RPG, avoiding combat will be difficult. Based on gameplay videos, it can be concluded that it will resemble RAGE, with weapon customization elements from Fallout.
To avoid confrontation, players can use stealth and rely on their hacking and persuasion skills to access difficult areas without violence.
The hero will not be alone in their travels and can take companions with them on expeditions. They will assist in combat and non-combat tasks such as carrying cargo and repairing equipment.
Character creation and development
The character creation editor will be more advanced and allow for detailed customization options, from hairstyles to skin features. Starting backgrounds and unique character traits will add an additional layer to role-playing.
The development tree is represented by five branches of skills (at the moment):
- Social;
- Physical;
- Technically;
- Scientific;
- Combat;
The skill tree is divided into five categories (social, physical, technical, scientific, and combat), and combining them will allow players to create a unique build that suits their playstyle. Skills will improve through usage..
System requirements
Starfield's system requirements have not yet been announced, but it is expected to use the improved Creation Engine, include procedural generation, and a vast open world. Seamless planetary landings and takeoffs are not promised and will occur through cutscenes.
The ultra-setting requirements will require a powerful machine to fully enjoy the game's graphics, including stunning planetary landscapes and space environments.
