PC for Cinema 4D: what hardware is needed in 2026
The computer requirements for Cinema 4D have changed fundamentally in recent years. Redshift became the default render engine, and rendering moved from the processor to the video card. The processor has not lost its importance, but now it is responsible for something else: viewport responsiveness, modeling and simulations.
Below are the official Maxon requirements, an analysis of which component is responsible for what, how much video memory and RAM are needed for different scenes, and three configurations for typical tasks.
Official requirements for Cinema 4D 2026
Maxon publishes minimum graphics card requirements, and they are modest: DirectX 12 graphics at feature level 11.0, starting with NVIDIA Maxwell, AMD Polaris and Intel Kaby Lake generations, with drivers no older than NVIDIA 495 and AMD 24Q3. A separate NVIDIA or AMD video card with at least 4 GB of memory, or preferably 8 GB, is recommended.
There are separate requirements for Redshift:
| Platform | Video card | Video memory | Driver |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows, NVIDIA | CUDA compute capability 5.0 and higher | from 8 GB | 570 and newer |
| Windows, AMD | RDNA 2 and later | from 8 GB | 24.Q3 and later |
| Intel | GPU rendering is not supported | - | Redshift CPU mode only |
The minimum requirements allow the program to work, but they are not enough to work professionally with Redshift. Below is what you need in practice.
Which component does what?
Video card - render.Redshift performance is almost entirely determined by the amount of video memory and GPU processing power. If the scene does not fit into video memory, Redshift uses swapping and rendering slows down dramatically.
Processor - work in viewport and simulation.Modeling, animation, MoGraph, dynamics and scene preparation for rendering are processor dependent. A high frequency per core is important here: the interface and many Cinema 4D operations are performed in a single thread.
RAM - scene size.Large scenes, simulation caches, high-resolution textures, and parallel work in After Effects require a lot of memory.
Storage - caches and assets.Fast NVMe speeds up loading projects, writing simulation caches, and working with asset libraries.
How much video memory does Redshift need?
| Scene | Recommended video memory |
|---|---|
| Educational projects, simple motion design | 8 GB, works, but no reserve |
| Commercial motion design, product visualization | 12-16 GB |
| Complex scenes with highly detailed textures | 24 GB |
| Heavy production, large environments, volumetric effects | 32 GB or more |
For most professional tasks, 12 GB is a reasonable starting level, 16 GB is comfortable. If your projects have a lot of highly detailed geometry, volumetric effects or large textures, you should immediately set aside 24-32 GB. For scenes that require 48-96 GB in one card, there are professional video cards, more details in RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell guide.
Redshift can use multiple video cards at the same time, so for the final render, a second card speeds up the work. But the video memory is not summed up: the scene must fit into the memory of each card.
Which processor to choose
Since the rendering goes to the video card, the processor in Cinema 4D is chosen for responsiveness, and not for rendering speed.
- High frequency per core is more important than the number of coresfor viewport, modeling and animation.
- Many cores are neededif you render on the CPU, use simulations that are distributed across threads, or work in parallel in other programs.
- Optimal for most- modern 16-core processors with high frequencies, for example Ryzen 9 9950X3D or Core Ultra 9 285K.
- Platforms with a large number of coresjustified for studios with CPU rendering and heavy simulations.
How much RAM do you need?
- 32 GB- minimum for work, sufficient for educational and small commercial projects.
- 64 GB- a comfortable level for commercial motion design with parallel work in After Effects.
- 128 GB- for large production scenes, heavy simulations and large caches.
The lack of RAM manifests itself not only in speed, but also in stability: a large scene, when memory is exhausted, can cause the program to crash.
Three configurations for tasks
| Task | CPU | Video card | Memory | Drives |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Motion design, product visualization | 16 cores, high frequency | RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB | 64 GB | NVMe 2 TB for system and projects |
| Commercial production | Ryzen 9 9950X3D or Core Ultra 9 285K | RTX 5090 32 GB | 64-128 GB | NVMe 2 TB plus NVMe 4 TB for caches |
| Studio, heavy render | Multi-core platform | Two RTX 5090 or professional card | 128 GB or more | Multiple NVMe, separate disk for caches |
Ready-made configurations for 3D and rendering are in the section workstations, and you can select your own in configurator with checking compatibility and calculating the power supply for several video cards.
Common mistakes when choosing a PC for Cinema 4D
- Buy a multi-core processor to render Redshift.Rendering takes place on the video card, the processor has almost no effect on it.
- Save on video memory.A card with 8 GB is formally suitable, but in commercial scenes it quickly runs into memory.
- Rely on the summation of the memory of two video cards. In Redshift, the scene must fit into the memory of each card.
- Install 32 GB of RAM for production. With After Effects and large caches this is not enough.
- Store simulation caches on the same disk as the system.A separate, fast drive speeds up work and simplifies space management.
- Forget about the power supply and coolingwith multiple video cards. Two flagship cards under long-term load require a powerful unit and thoughtful airflow.

Frequently asked questions
- What are the system requirements for Cinema 4D 2026? Minimum - a video card supporting DirectX 12 at feature level 11.0, starting with NVIDIA Maxwell, AMD Polaris or Intel Kaby Lake, with a driver no older than NVIDIA 495 or AMD 24Q3. A separate video card with at least 8 GB of memory is recommended. Redshift requires NVIDIA with CUDA compute capability 5.0 and higher or AMD RDNA 2 and higher, with at least 8 GB of video memory.
- What is more important for Cinema 4D: processor or video card? For rendering in Redshift - a video card, especially the amount of video memory. For work in viewport, modeling, animation and simulations - a processor with a high frequency per core. The optimal configuration is balanced across both components.
- How much video memory does Redshift need? 8 GB is the minimum for light scenes, 12-16 GB is a comfortable level for commercial work, 24-32 GB is for complex scenes with highly detailed textures and volumetric effects.
- How much RAM does Cinema 4D need? 32 GB - minimum, 64 GB - comfortable for commercial motion design with parallel work in After Effects, 128 GB - for large production scenes and heavy simulations.
- Does Redshift work on AMD and Intel graphics cards? On AMD - yes, starting with the RDNA 2 architecture, with 8 GB of video memory and driver 24.Q3 and later. On Intel video cards, Redshift GPU rendering is not supported; only CPU mode is available.
- Do two graphics cards speed up rendering in Redshift? Yes, Redshift uses multiple video cards at the same time, and the final render is faster. But video memory does not add up: the entire scene must fit into the memory of each card.
- Do you need a multi-core processor for Cinema 4D? Not for rendering in Redshift, because rendering is done on the video card. Many cores are needed for CPU rendering, some simulations and parallel work in several programs. For viewport, the frequency per core is more important.
- Which graphics card is best for Cinema 4D in 2026? For motion design - RTX 5070 Ti level with 16 GB. For commercial production - RTX 5090 with 32 GB. For scenes that require 48-96 GB in one card, use professional cards from the RTX PRO line.
- Is a gaming PC good for Cinema 4D? For training and small projects - yes, if it has a modern video card with 12-16 GB of memory. For commercial work, a gaming PC is usually limited by the amount of RAM and video memory, as well as the number of drives for caches.
