A PC for GTA 6: What We Actually Do Not Know, and What a Buyer Should Do
Start with the awkward part
As of September 2026, PC system requirements for GTA 6 do not exist. Not "unpublished": they do not exist. Rockstar has not announced a computer version at all. The confirmed date of 19 November 2026 applies only to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
Anything you find in roundups of "official GTA 6 requirements" with exact graphics-card models is a forecast dressed up as a fact. Those tables are usually the Red Dead Redemption 2 requirements, adjusted for newer hardware.
That does not mean preparing is pointless. It means you prepare for a range, not for a line in a table.
What is known for certain
| What | Status |
|---|---|
| Release on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S | 19 November 2026, confirmed by Rockstar |
| PC version | not announced, no date |
| PC system requirements | not published |
| The studio's past practice | GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 came to PC 12-18 months after the consoles |
The last row leads to the only useful conclusion: buying a computer today "for GTA 6" as if it had a fixed date does not make sense. Between today and a likely PC release, enough time will pass for a graphics-card generation to change.
What to aim for instead
There is a reference, and it is more reliable than rumours: the consoles. GTA 6 is being built for PS5 and Xbox Series X. That is a fixed development target: an eight-core Zen 2 processor, about 16 GB of shared memory, RDNA 2 class graphics, and a fast NVMe drive with hardware decompression.
What that means for a PC.
The processor. Eight console cores are the lower bound. A current desktop six-core processor clears that, but Rockstar ports have historically been hard on the processor, so eight cores is the sensible target if you want headroom for the port.
Memory. 16 GB on a PC will be the minimum, and 32 GB the working level. The reason is not the game itself. It is how current ports behave: they cache aggressively and do not like a browser and a voice chat living next to the game.
Video memory. This is the main risk. A highly detailed open world is textures first. A card with 8 GB of video memory will, by the time a PC version releases, be in the position where texture quality has to come down even if the raw performance is formally enough. 12 GB is the minimum worth looking at. 16 GB is the comfortable option.
Storage. NVMe is required, and this is the one point you can be sure of without any announcement: streaming the world on consoles depends on a fast drive, and a port inherits that logic.
Three positions you can choose from today
Not "configurations for GTA 6". That would not be an honest name. These are three reasonable positions toward a release that does not exist yet.
Position one: do not wait. You need a computer now, and GTA 6 will be a pleasant bonus someday. The logic is ordinary: buy for the games you play now and for your monitor. An RTX 5070 class machine with 32 GB of memory covers 1440p for years, and by the time a PC version arrives it should still be relevant at least on high settings.
Position two: leave headroom in video memory. If the upgrade is meant to be one and to last, video memory is the one component you should not save on. 16 GB instead of 12 GB costs more over a long stretch than the price gap between the cards.
Position three: the platform now, the graphics card later. The most rational option in the current situation. Buy a good platform: an eight-core processor, 32 GB of DDR5, a power supply with headroom, a case with proper airflow, and a 2 TB drive. Fit the graphics card that covers the games you play today. When a PC version of GTA 6 is announced and real requirements appear, you change one graphics card, not the whole machine.
At HYPERPC, the configurations in the gaming PCs with an RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti section fit this logic: the platform is built with headroom in power and cooling, so a graphics-card upgrade in a year or eighteen months does not force a new power supply and case.
What you should definitely not do
Buy a flagship graphics card "for later" for a game with no release date. While you wait, it will lose more in price than it gains in performance by the time of release.
Trust requirements tables from blogs. They are invented, and one sign gives it away: they name exact models and do not link a source.
Save on the power supply and the case. Those two parts survive two or three graphics-card upgrades, and they decide what the next step will cost.
When this article goes out of date
On the day Rockstar announces a PC version. Official requirements will follow, and the whole breakdown above will need to be replaced with specifics. Until then, any exact figure for GTA 6 on PC is guesswork, no matter whose logo sits next to it.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When will GTA 6 release on PC? There is no date, and a PC version has not been announced. The console release is set for 19 November 2026. Historically, Rockstar games reached PC 12-18 months after the consoles, but that is an observation, not a promise from the studio.
- What are the PC system requirements for GTA 6? They have not been published. Anything that looks like official requirements is a forecast. A reasonable guide is the console development target: eight cores, 16 GB of memory, a fast NVMe drive, and a graphics card with 12 GB of video memory or more.
- Will my RTX 4070 or 5070 be enough for GTA 6? On performance class, almost certainly yes. The question will be settings and resolution. Cards with 8 GB of video memory are the weaker spot: textures will be the limit, not speed.
- How much system memory should you buy? 32 GB. 16 GB will probably be the minimum, and the price gap between 16 and 32 GB is now so small that saving on this item does not make sense.
- Should you buy a computer now or wait for the announcement? If you need the computer for the games you play today, buy now. If the only goal is GTA 6, there is nothing to wait for in a useful way: the game is not even on the public PC plans, and by the time of an announcement the graphics-card lineup will have changed.
