For over 10 years, Russian developers have not released high-budget games. The last AAA project called Singularity came out in 2010. It seemed that domestic game development was no longer capable of releasing large and expensive blockbusters. However, 5 years ago, the St. Petersburg studio Mundfish proved otherwise by presenting the Russian adventure action game Atomic Heart to the world.
Game plot
Atomic Heart tells an alternative history of the Soviet Union. In 1936, scientist Dmitry Sechenov invents the energy accumulator "Polymer". Thanks to this technology, the country makes a powerful industrial leap forward. In 1939, a difficult war with Germany begins. It ends in 2 years, but at the cost of huge losses. The Soviet Union lacks human resources, and the government appoints Dmitry Sechenov as the head of the robotics development program. The main goal of the project is to compensate for the shortage of human resources with the help of machines.
Thanks to the unique energy accumulator, scientists successfully launch mass production of robots. They are used in all areas of science and production, which helps the country to quickly recover after the war. In 1948, Sechenov invents the neural network "Collective". It allows controlling robots from a single control center. To study this neural network, "Enterprise 3826" is built in Kazakhstan. It is there that Sechenov develops the second version of the neural network, with the help of which robots are controlled by the power of human thought.
In 1955, just before the launch of the second version of the neural network, there is an accident at Enterprise 3826. The Collective system fails, and robots begin to crush the territory of the research complex. To solve the problem, the government sends the main character - KGB Major Sergei Nechaev. He must find out the true causes of the failure and return the robots under human control.

Gameplay
Atomic Heart is a first-person open-world adventure shooter. The basis of the gameplay is battles. The player has access to two types of weapons: long-range and close-range. Long-range weapons are divided into firearms and energy weapons. Firearms include pistols, rifles, shotguns, etc. They shoot standard cartridges that will have to be crafted or found in the open world. Energy weapons shoot special plasma cartridges. They will be effective against certain types of enemies.
Close-range weapons will be represented by a rich arsenal of homemade bats, swords, hammers, and saws. Each such unit can be upgraded and modernized. For example, if an electric module is installed on a hammer, in addition to physical damage, the enemy will begin to receive electric shocks. And if you upgrade a saw with a heating element, you can set the enemy on fire.
The number of cartridges in Atomic Heart will be limited. Players will not be able to sit in cover, shooting hordes of enemies. This system will force users to combine close and long-range attacks. That is, players will have to reduce the distance to strike with cold weapons.
Polymer glove
It is a unique neural invention that significantly simplifies the process of polymer absorption. In practice, the glove gives the player new combat abilities. With its help, you can:
- repair weapons;
- freeze enemies;
- scan the area;
- lift objects (telekinesis);
- electrify technology (electrokinesis);
- hit enemies with an electric discharge.
At the same time, the polymer glove uses only two abilities. The player will have to decide in advance which perks to take with them. For example, the freeze can be installed in the first slot to put enemies in stasis. And in the second slot, you can install telekinesis to throw frozen enemies.
Enemies
The main enemies in Atomic Heart are robots. There are dozens of varieties with their unique models, animations, and behavior. For each enemy, you will have to choose weapons and glove abilities. For example, an automatic weapon will be suitable for destroying bee robots, and a hammer is recommended for fighting "Laborants".
There will also be organic enemies created as a result of experiments. Unlike robots, they are faster and more agile. To fight them, you will have to carefully choose equipment and polymer glove abilities.
