Deep upgrade: Transition to the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D platform and complete system customization
Upgrade description
Stanislav Valerievich contacted our service with a critical problem: his computer began to spontaneously shut down and reboot under load. During an in-depth diagnosis, our engineers identified a motherboard malfunction (short circuit in components).
The situation became a reason for the client not just to repair the device, but to carry out a large-scale modernization. Stanislav is a professional whose work involves large transactions and important documents, and as a hobby he masters video editing. He needed an ultimate “growth” system that would provide 24/7 stability and maximum rendering speed.
Upgrade configuration
- Graphics card:NVIDIA GeForce RTX (from existing client build)
- CPU:AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (up to 5.7GHz, 16 cores / 32 threads)
- Motherboard:MSI MPG X870E CARBON [DDR5, Wi-Fi 7]
- RAM:96GB (2x48GB) G.Skill Trident Z5 6000MHz (Optimized)
- Cooling:MSI MEG CORELIQUID S360 + 10x Lian Li UNI FAN TL WIRELESS 120
- Case:LianLi Dynamic
Upgrade tasks
- Scope of activity: Business, video production and content creation.
- Software used: Video editors (editing in high resolution), office packages.
- Key requirement: Uncompromising performance, quiet cooling, and preservation of critical data when reinstalling the system.
Selection process and decision
The project went from renovation to a complete change of architecture. Initially, it was planned to replace it with a similar Intel board, but during the discussion the client decided to switch to the latest AMD AM5 platform.
- CPU. We offered the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X3D. It's the perfect solution: 16 cores handle heavy editing, and 3D V-Cache makes the system incredibly responsive.
- Memory. For working with video, 64 GB was no longer enough. We installed the G.Skill Trident Z5 96GB kit. Despite the nominal frequency of 6400 MHz, our engineers manually optimized it to 6000 MHz with the selection of minimum timings, since this is the “gold standard” of stability for a Ryzen memory controller.
- Cooling and acoustic comfort. The client was annoyed by extraneous sounds from old fans. We have completely replaced them with the premium Lian Li UNI FAN TL Wireless series. This not only solved the noise problem, but also made it possible to get rid of unnecessary wires in the case.
- Aesthetics. To highlight the status of the assembly, a set of custom HYPERPC Cable Kits in a strict black and blue design was installed.
Result
As a result, “reanimation” turned into the creation of a powerful workstation. We not only restored functionality, but also:
- We saved all important documents regarding the Phoenix transaction.
- We made the system almost silent even under load.
- We adjusted the BIOS and memory timings for maximum stability on the AM5 platform.
- We purchased old components (CPU, MB, RAM) through the Trade-In program, significantly reducing the final cost of the upgrade for the client.
